In short

Fish For Singles is a dating site for anglers and outdoor people, run by High Intent Media Inc. Joining, creating a profile and browsing are free; reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership. Profiles are shared with partner sites in the same network, so members who joined elsewhere can see and message you.

Free or paid: what you can do at each stage

You can join, build a profile and browse for free. A paid membership is needed to read your messages and reply.

Optional paid extras include profile boosts, priority messages, a 24-hour pass, revealing who likes you and an ID-verified badge.

Step 1: join free

Sign up in the members area with your email address, a password and your date of birth.

You must be 18 or over (21 in Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska and Wyoming). Members can join from the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Portugal.

Step 2: build your profile

Your profile is how people decide whether to say hello, so the free text matters most. Add at least one photo; most profiles need one before they go live, and every photo is reviewed.

Then fill in who you'd like to meet, the age range and distance you're looking for, and details such as languages, children, smoking and drinking. In the free text, say what you fish for, where and how often, or say you've never fished and fancy learning. Our profile tips for anglers have examples.

Step 3: browse for free

Browsing costs nothing. You can look around, set the age range and distance you're interested in, and get a feel for who's on the site before deciding whether to pay.

Step 4: upgrade when you want to talk

To read your messages and reply, you need a paid membership. Memberships renew automatically until you cancel in Settings > Billing.

The partner network, plainly

Fish For Singles shares one member database with partner dating sites in the same network. Members who joined through a partner site can see your profile and message you, and you can see and message them. Each profile shows which site its owner originally joined through.

So not everyone you meet will have joined because of fishing. That's one more reason to say clearly in your profile what you love doing.

What's checked and what isn't

Photos are checked; what people write about themselves is not.

  • Photos: every one is reviewed.
  • Profile text: not checked. What someone writes about their age, job or life is their word only.
  • Identity: not checked by default. Members can buy an optional ID-verified badge, which involves photo ID and a selfie checked by an outside provider, LEM Verify. You may be asked to verify if you sign up through a VPN or if an account is flagged.

Because profile details aren't checked, keep your wits about you. Never send money to someone you've met online, and read our safety page and romance scam guide before you meet anyone.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

Fish For Singles suits people who fish, or love the outdoors, and want to meet someone who gets why a 5am start can be a good thing. It's UK-first, with members elsewhere welcome.

It's probably not for you if you want to message without paying, or if you need every member's identity checked before you talk to them.

Leaving

Cancel any paid membership first in Settings > Billing, then delete your account from your avatar > Settings > Delete Account. Don't rely on deleting your account to stop a renewal: do both, in that order. Our step-by-step guide to deleting your account has the details.

Questions people ask

Can members of other sites see my profile?

Yes. Fish For Singles shares one member database with partner dating sites in the same network. Members who joined through those sites can see your profile and message you, and you can do the same. Each profile shows which site its owner joined through, so you can tell who found you via Fish For Singles.

Are profiles checked?

Photos are reviewed before they appear. What members write about themselves, such as their age, job or where they live, isn't checked, and identity isn't checked by default. Treat a profile as a starting point, ask questions, and stay alert to the signs of a romance scam, especially any mention of money.

Do I need to verify my ID?

Usually not. ID verification is an optional paid badge that involves photo ID and a selfie, checked by an outside provider. You may be asked to verify before carrying on if you sign up through a VPN or if your account is flagged. Without the badge, you can still join, browse and use a membership.

Do I have to fish to join?

No. The site and its guides are built around angling, but you don't need to own a rod. People who love the outdoors, or who fancy learning, are just as welcome. Say so in your profile: plenty of anglers would be glad to meet someone curious enough to come along and try it.
