Which option suits you?

The right choice depends on how much time you have to chat. A rough guide:

If you want to... Consider
Just look around and set up your profile Staying free
Try a few conversations before committing The trial or the shortest option, with a reminder set before it renews
Chat properly and arrange to meet over a few weeks A monthly membership

Whatever you choose, it renews automatically, so the cheapest plan is the one you remember to cancel when you've finished with it.

Extras are optional add-ons, not part of a membership. They include profile boosts, priority messages, a 24-hour pass, revealing who likes you and an ID-verified badge. You don't need any of them to read and reply to messages.

The ID-verified badge involves photo ID and a selfie checked by an outside provider. It's optional unless you sign up through a VPN or your account is flagged.

Automatic renewal

Every membership renews automatically at the end of its period, and the trial moves on to a monthly membership. You'll keep being charged until you switch renewal off.

To stop renewing:

  1. Log in at the members area.
  2. Go to Settings > Billing.
  3. Cancel the membership and keep any confirmation.

A tip worth keeping: set a reminder a couple of days before a trial or membership ends, so you can decide whether to carry on. Billing, cancelling and refunds has more detail.

What you'll see on your statement

The charge appears under the billing name shown at checkout, which may be a network name rather than "Fish For Singles". Note it when you pay so you recognise it later.

If you see a charge you don't recognise, contact the members help centre with the date and amount before you contact your bank. If you think your card has been used without your permission, call your bank straight away.

Refunds

Under the members area terms, refunds are pro-rata and only available when at least 40% of the membership period is unused. Read the current members area terms for the exact wording, and ask the help centre if you think you qualify.

If you're in the UK and unsure of your rights as a consumer, Citizens Advice can help.

Getting value from a membership

A membership is worth most when your profile is ready before you pay. Add a couple of good photos and write a profile that says what you love doing; our profile tips help.

Then use the time to have real conversations and arrange a meeting, rather than collecting matches. Our guide to first messages that get a reply has examples. A summary of costs, rules and who runs the site is on key facts.

Questions people ask

Can I use Fish For Singles without paying?

Yes. Joining, building a profile, adding photos and browsing other members are all free, and free members see adverts in the members area. To read your messages and reply to them you need a paid membership. It makes sense to get your profile right for free first, then pay once you've seen who's on the site.

Why are prices in dollars?

The members area has shown prices in US dollars. If you pay with a UK or other non-US card, your bank converts the charge into your own currency and may add a foreign exchange fee, so the amount on your statement can differ slightly from the price shown. Check the price at checkout and your card's terms before you pay.

Will the trial turn into a monthly membership?

Yes. The trial moves on to a monthly membership automatically unless you cancel in Settings > Billing before it ends. If you only want to try the site, set a reminder on your phone a day or two before the trial finishes, so you can decide calmly whether to carry on.

Do I need the paid extras?

No. Extras such as profile boosts, priority messages, a 24-hour pass, revealing who likes you and the ID-verified badge are all optional. A membership is what lets you read and reply to messages. The ID badge can help others trust your profile, but you don't need it unless you're asked to verify.
